Project background and objectives

Since 1990s systems of biodiversity conservation in V4 are in transition from top-down and close ones to open and integrated into multilevel EU governance. Biodiversity conservation in Ukraine (UA) is just entering this process, and V4 experience can help to identify solutions for the open market situation with multiple centers of decision making, and for developing participatory approaches. UA borders V4, and they have a lot of cooperation ties in the field, however this mostly concerns conservation biology and game management, while the impact on higher education is limited, especially in Eastern UA. To address this, this course summarises a wealth of experience V4 countries accumulated in transition of their biodiversity governance systems to functional EU member states complying to EU acquis.

Tо address this, we bring forward the objective to develop, teach and disseminate a 4 ECTS course (52 in-class hours) for masters’ students discussing politics and economics of biodiversity conservation in V4.
