Scientific workshop on the Visegrad Fund project

28 May 2021 a scientific workshop and a roundtable took place in the framework of the Visegrad Fund project «GREEN & BLUE INFRASTRUCTURE IN POST-USSR CITIES: EXPLORING LEGACIES AND CONNECTING TO V4 EXPERIENCE» in e-format. The event  was organized for discussion and reaching the aim of the project –to understand what other innovation projects successfully implemented in the EU have their chance in Ukraine, what kind of projects would be useful and relevant in terms of sustainability transition in Ukraine and what barriers need to be considered to ensure theirsuccess.

There were some categories of participants, representing various stakeholders:

  • Representatives of business and environmental companies / organisations dealing with landscape design, green infrastructure, nature and cultural heritage, physical planning and urban design development («Ecodis – landscape design services», Ipris-Profil Ltd., National Nature Park «Slobozhanskiy»);
  • Scientists from research institutes, having their scientific interests in the domain of GB infrastructure development and functioning as well as studies of green infrastructure (Institute of Ecology of the Carpathians, Ukrainian order “Sign of Honour” Research Institute of Forestry and Forest Melioration named after G. M. Vysotsky);
  • Academic staff and students from higher educational institutions having research and practical experience on GB infrastructure development and maintenance, physical planning, landscape architecture and environment protection (M. Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv, Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Uman National University of Horticulture, Vinnytsia Аcademy of Сontinuing Еducation, Luhansk National Agrarian University, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University) ;
  • Representatives of NGOs promoting environmental-friendly solutions for urban areas (Ukrainian Geographical Society, Ukrainian Society for Nature Protection);
  • Staff from local authorities dealing with physical planning, environmental management and greening of urban areas, as well as from regional authorizes and their sub-contractors (Department of Environment Protection and Nature Management under Kharkiv Oblast Administration, Municipal Company “Kharkivblagoustriy”).

European partners actively took part in the workshop, they were from:

  • Estonian University of Life Sciences, Tartu, Estonia;
  • Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Institute of Landscape Architecture;
  • Univeristy of South Bohemia, Czech Republic;
  • University of Ostrava, Czech Republic ;
  • Slovak University of Agriculture, Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering, Nitra, Slovakia

Presentations were made by Ukrainian and European scientists and there was a very fruitful discussion.
